Ocean Kids Vacation Camp

Since 1st of April, Joel's been going to the Ocean Kids Vacation Camp. This camp is for kids aged 2 years to 7 years. During this camp, their activities include learning a devotional song, dancing, finger and hand printing, vegetable printing, yoga and a lot more fun activities.

Joel's made a friend out there by name Zayed. I haven't met the little guy. In fact I've not been to the venue at all. Abu's been taking Joel there and bringing him back. I guess not dressing up in uniform has its own benefits.

Joel is now very interested in dancing. For a 3 year old, he is taken up by Shah Rukh Khan. 2 Sat nights ago, we were in Udupi and Amrith was watching songs on the 9xM channel. Joel in his pyjamas was dancing away. For the Dard-e-disco song, Joel took off his shirt to imitate his idol. The next song has SRK with his shirt on, so Joel comes running to me to put his shirt back on. Amrith and I couldn't stop smiling that night.

Happy Birthday to you is now no more just a cake. It's a song to be sung when eating cake. Followed by 'May the Goo Go bess you'.

'Kitya' (Why) is a word that's never far from Joel's mouth.

Annual School Day

Was all set to post about Joel's first annual school day on 13th March, 2008. Thanks to my company blocking access to websites like blogger, this post comes almost a month after that day. :(

Joel was brilliant on stage. I thought he might lose his cool or get self conscious with the lights and seeing an audience. I was also a little worried if he saw me from stage, he might forget what he was supposed to be doing on stage. None of those worries materialised. Though I was cursing myself about not taking an extra set of batteries for the camera.

The little fellow was very confident during his time on stage. I almost had tears in my eyes looking at this fellow standing there without a care, looking at his BINGO dog (another child sitting next to him in a dog costume) and talking to him and generally doing what he was instructed to do. When his song got over, he walks over to the end of the line with the other children, stands there and watches the next set of children do their act.

He had fun on stage. Abu and Nanna who were with me were all smiles. The little boy has grown and how.

The icing of this cake was the certificate of merit he got. I wasn't even aware there was one being given to every child. Joel's certificate appreciated his punctuality, neatness in attire and good behaviour. He's definitely got his dad's genes. His mom was labelled a chatter box from day 1.
