Bumps

Last evening, Joel wanted me to adjust his pyjamas while we were on the sofa - me sitting, he standing.

He was in this jumpy mood and mode. The moment he noticed that his pyjamas were done, he tried falling backwards. He succeeded alright. He also bumped his head on the hand hold of the sofa.

Crying - pacifying - crying - pacifying.

Since it was more than 2 hours since he last ate something, tried feeding him some 'rawa'/'upma'. Since he didn't want it, he started a 'chimti' and 'thaap' routine, which I played with him. Only this time he was mighty serious and flounced away by trying to plonk himself flat on the sofa. Bumped his forehead.

Mood lifter

Never knew that sitting with Joel, watching cartoon (T&J) and eating banana chips & laddoos could be so great for my lousy mood.

I did just that with him last night for about 45 minutes and then we both went to bed. The little guy was very quiet even though he couldn't settle down immediately.

A bash at Haleangadi

To celebrate Mai's oncoming 80th birthday and Delisha's 7th birthday, Mom hatched the idea of a get-together with her brothers and sisters.

So on 18th Aug, we were a whole big lot of us out at Haleangadi. Joel had a blast there. He ate his food like I've never seen him do. And enjoyed himself with Jonah, Errol, Eric, Delisha and Noah.

Signs of Intelligence

On 17th Aug evening, Joel was craving for chocolates. Now since we were getting closer to his good night sleep time, decided to distract him with some 'rawa laddoos'. The packet was sitting on top of the refridgerator.

Since there were plenty for him to have and go around, I suggested that he offers some to his Maxi nanna, Ibba nanna and Abu.

He complied. He gave one to Maxi nanna.

He offered the bag to Ibba nanna. She took 2 out of the bag.

Last came Abu. There were only 2 left. Abu was planning to take one and leave one for Joel. Joel in the meantime offered to pull out the laddoos.

He pulled out both for himself and gave the bag to Abu.

Errors

In the last post I'd mentioned characters from POGO and Cartoon Network. Forgive this mom's faulty memory. Assigned cartoon characters wrongly to both channels. When you (Joel) read this, do Google (if it still exists) and find out which character was played on which channel. I'm too lazy to set right that error. Though I'd to add that Johny Bravo is just added to the recent list.

You pronounce his name as Jony Bav. :)

After hearing about Joel's runny nose, here's what I've been told:

I think he's got it from me more than Amrith. A few things that Joel does reminds me of the times when I was a kid throwing a tantrum just to get my way or get a new toy. It was always followed by a smack in public, loads of tears and this major feeling that parents and people don't love or like me.

That view changed after a lot of years. I'm glad that it did.

In Joel's case, it's just the beginning. Although he's got more pats than smacks from me, he does seem to get on Nanna's nerves. He's got a few discplinary whacks from Abu and Nanna. It breaks my heart that he has to receive it from them. They don't like dishing it out either.

I just hope that he doesn't turn sour for years together like I did.

Joel's done great this last week when I've been away to Kerala. Abu too had been to Bangalore. Thankfully, he didn't fall ill nor has he got any spankings.

I think I'm spoiling him rotten. He's got a cold and runny nose since yesterday. Thanks to the drive to Manipal to see Acha and the ice cream on the way back.
